SMMART BABY ART: Color Walk...or Crawl

Colors, Textures, Sounds...

Place different colored clothing, blankets, jackets, fabric remnants, papers in a long path from room to room. Then "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" as you let your baby crawl or practice walking along the different textures and colors.

Share the color names of each piece of the path with your child, if the fabric is smooth or rough or slippery. Does the fabric make a sound when you step on it?

Older children will love walking along this colorful pathway that connects several rooms together. Ask your child to stand on a "blue" piece of the path. You can practice "dark blue and light blue", or ask your child to find other opposites like "shiny" and "dull", "wrinkled" or "straight/ironed", or "patterned" and "plain".

When it's time to clean up, help your older child sort the path into piles of "color", "texture" or "type of clothing".

SMMART BABY SCIENCE: Good Night Toes

Besides chomping on yummy baby cheeks, I have to say I LOVE soft little baby feet and toes! Love them!

Anatomy 101...Introduce your baby to her body parts as you prep your baby for a nap. Kiss your baby's little shoulders. "Good night shoulders." Now kiss her little chin. "Good night chin."

Your baby will adore the loving attention given to each little piece of her yummy baby body.

"Good night Toes!"

SMMART BABY: Reading

New little topic to share with you ... for the younger crowd. This activity is a fun way to engage baby during reading time.

Many books have a natural rhythm to them. Hold your baby's little foot or hand and tap it on the page while you are reading to her.

You'll find that she just may try to tap out the rhythm. Kicking at the pages to try it out on her own. Super cute to see that little mind learning and mimicking.

Your older children will like doing this with you too!
